Apple may be preparing to make a dramatic departure from its established chip roadmap by skipping the M6 Pro and M6 Max variants entirely and moving straight to an M7 series built from the ground up with artificial intelligence at its core, according to a report published by Firstpost. Apple's current practice has been to release a baseline chip — such as the M4 — followed by Pro, Max, and Ultra variants optimised for progressively heavier workloads in MacBook Pros, Mac Studios, and Mac Pros. Skipping the M6 Pro and M6 Max would compress that ladder, suggesting Apple believes the performance gains from an AI-centric M7 architecture outweigh the commercial logic of a full M6 family rollout.
