Key facts

  • TCS Q1 FY27 net profit: Rs 13,349 crore, up 4.61% YoY
  • Wage hikes impacted margins by 170 basis points
  • BFSI segment led revenue growth
  • Weak rupee boosted revenue; beat analyst estimates
  • Multiple AI transformation deals won

Tata Consultancy Services posted a net profit of Rs 13,349 crore for the first quarter of FY27, a rise of 4.61% over the same period last year, as strong demand from banking and financial services clients and a weak rupee helped the country's largest IT company beat revenue estimates.

Wage hikes, however, took a visible toll on profitability, denting operating margins by 170 basis points during the quarter. The BFSI segment emerged as the primary growth driver, offsetting pockets of softness elsewhere in the portfolio. TCS also disclosed that it has won multiple AI transformation deals, underlining that enterprise spending on artificial intelligence is beginning to translate into tangible contracts for Indian IT majors.

The weak rupee offered an additional boost, as the bulk of TCS's revenues are earned in foreign currencies and translated back into rupees for reporting. Reuters noted that the company topped revenue estimates on the back of these combined tailwinds.

For investors and industry watchers, the results deliver a mixed but broadly positive signal: demand remains healthy and AI is becoming a real revenue driver, but the cost of rewarding a large workforce means margin recovery will be gradual. Analysts will now look closely at whether rivals Infosys and Wipro report a similarly resilient set of numbers in the days ahead, as the Q1 earnings season for Indian IT gathers pace.
