- SAI and Safdarjung Sports Injury Centre sign MoU
- Partnership targets stronger sports science and athlete injury care
- SAI is India's nodal body for elite sports development
The Sports Authority of India and the Safdarjung Sports Injury Centre have formalised a partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen sports science capabilities and improve athlete care, the Press Information Bureau reported.
The MoU establishes a framework for collaboration between SAI, which is the nodal body for elite sports development in India, and the Safdarjung Sports Injury Centre, which specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injuries. Together, they aim to provide a more comprehensive support system for Indian athletes at all levels of the performance pathway.
Sports science has increasingly become a decisive factor in elite athletics globally, with injury prevention, rehabilitation and performance optimisation often separating medal-winning programmes from the rest. India has historically lagged behind leading sporting nations in this area, and the MoU represents a formal step towards closing that gap.
The agreement is particularly significant ahead of a busy international calendar for Indian sport, with athletes preparing for multiple major competitions. By combining SAI's nationwide network with the Safdarjung Centre's specialist medical expertise, the partnership aims to reduce injury-related disruptions and enhance the overall readiness of Indian athletes.
