Gujarat has launched its first dedicated Data Centre Policy, targeting investments of ₹6 lakh crore and a total capacity of 7.5 GW, in what the state government is positioning as a landmark step toward becoming India's premier digital infrastructure hub. The Hindu reported the policy's unveiling, which sets out Gujarat's ambitions in one of the world's fastest-growing technology sectors.

The targets are substantial even by national standards. India's overall data centre capacity has been growing rapidly as hyperscalers, domestic cloud providers, and enterprises race to build out infrastructure to support AI, streaming, fintech, and government digital services. Gujarat's geographic location, existing industrial infrastructure, and reliable power networks make it a natural candidate to attract large-scale investment in this space.

The policy is expected to include incentives around land allocation, power tariffs, and regulatory fast-tracking to draw both domestic and international data centre operators to the state.
