Key facts
- IPO size expected at ₹35,000–₹40,000 crore
- Would be India's largest-ever IPO
- Reliance Jio is India's biggest telecom operator by subscribers
- Filing confirmed by both BBC and The Hindu
The Hindu and BBC both report that Reliance Jio has formally filed for an IPO that is expected to raise between ₹35,000 and ₹40,000 crore, making it the largest share sale in India's history, surpassing previous record holders such as LIC's 2022 offering.
Jio, the telecom arm of Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries, has grown since its 2016 launch into India's largest mobile network by subscribers, and has also expanded into broadband, streaming, and enterprise services. The filing signals that Ambani is ready to unlock value in Jio as a standalone listed entity after years of speculation about a public listing.
The sheer size of the issue means it will absorb significant capital from domestic institutional investors, retail participants, and foreign portfolio investors, likely making it the defining market event of the year. For ordinary Indians, a Jio listing offers a direct chance to invest in a company whose services most of them already use daily, while also setting a new benchmark for India's equity markets on the global stage.
