The Hindu and Reuters report that India and the United Kingdom have announced July 15 as the rollout date for their free trade agreement, resolving a last-minute stumbling block over steel tariffs. The steel dispute — centred on import duty commitments — was settled after the UK provided reassurances to India, allowing both sides to finalise the implementation timeline.
The India-UK FTA has been years in the making, with negotiations that began in 2022 repeatedly delayed over sensitive issues including immigration, professional services, and tariffs on key industrial products like steel and automobiles. The deal announced earlier in 2025 is widely considered a milestone in post-Brexit British trade policy and a significant win for India's export ambitions.
